The Classic Keel BoatsWe have been encouraged to organise racing for classic keel dayboats since they do not fit the criteria for the British Classic Yacht Club and require courses similar to those that the Metre boats sail. Being the first year of this event, we will need to be flexible in terms of organisation, since whole fleets will probably not yet adopt the event in their entirety, although may attend in significant numbers. At the current stage of planning, it is anticipated that boats will sail in mixed fleets under some sort of rating system - more than one fleet if there are substantial numbers. If sufficient numbers of any class attend, a separate start may be arranged. If less than that, but still with sufficient numbers, a separate fleet result may be organised, but without a separate start. It would be helpful if fleet class captains/secretaries contact us to discuss likely numbers. There are many such classes as a result of almost every major Yacht Club, at some time in their history, commissioning a one-design for local racing. Frequently, this was to provide more economical sailing than in the Metre classes and many of these boats can trace their heritage back to the "classic" design of the times. It is to be hoped that this event will provide an opportunity for enthusiastic owners to enjoy mixing with similar boats and display (flaunt?) their attractions (of their boats that is). As well as individual boats of all relevant types, classes that may wish to participate include:
