Event Charity

Event Charity

This year the chosen regatta charity is the Classic Boat Museum.

We are hoping that Cowes Classics Week competitors will support the event charity by including a minimum of £20 as a donation with their regatta entry, and those who donate through this website will be entered into a draw for a Magnum of Champagne kindly donated by David Gower, Regatta Chairman. It's really easy to help the charity; simply follow this link and select 'Charitable Donation to The Jubilee Sailing Trust and Champagne Draw'

The Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) was founded in 1978 and is an international charity headquartered in the UK. Since 1978 they have welcomed nearly 50,000 people aboard their two tall ships.

Their impressive and unique, custom-built tall ships Lord Nelson and Tenacious have been specifically designed so everyone, regardless of ability or experience, can play a full and active role as a member of the voyage crew. Their mission is to:

  • Welcome the most marginalised in society either by disability or disadvantage, and give them the opportunity to be valued and make a meaning contribution alongside those who are more fortunate
  • Build relationships, empathy and understanding across communities through the power of shared activity and experience
  • Act as a flagship for social inclusion, showcasing the power of diverse teams and to demonstrate what is humanly possible
  • Strengthen individuals, their life skills, outlook and capabilities, through a lif changing adventure at sea

JSC Lord Nelson 02The Jubilee Sailing Trust’s relationship with the Isle of Wight dates back to its earliest beginnings with our barque Lord Nelson, the world’s first accessible tall ship, being completed in Cole’s Shipyard, West Cowes, in 1986. Today we work closely with a network of charitable partners across the Island with whom we source new beneficiaries. These include UKSA, IOW Sea Cadets and Headway (IOW) .

The JST use the medium of traditional tall ship sailing to promote diversity, integration and inclusion across our unique beneficiaries whilst maintaining traditional sailing techniques, methods and routines. Everyone works together, there are no passengers.

"There were too many highlights to list but I can say with complete conviction that the aims of the trust were met entirely. To witness disabled people doing everything that able bodied people did and the care and patience demonstrated by the crew was truely inspiring"

(Alan - JST Voyage Crew)

In recognition of its work, the JST has been accredited by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. It has also enjoyed 32 years of patronage from HRH, The Duke of York KG, who has provided outstanding support.

Find out more about the trust at www.jst.org.uk

Thank you for your support!
